14 speech team members advance to sections

Fourteen Pequot Lakes speech team members advanced Saturday, April 6, to the section tournament Saturday, April 13, in Underwood.

Sixteen speech team members participated in the sub-section tournament in Staples-Motley. To advance to Sections, students needed to place within the top six of their category.

Additionally, students taking seventh or eighth place in their category will attend as first and second alternates. The following students qualified for Sections.

Creative Expression: Luke Fyle/Marissa Miller, first; and Mackenzie Renford/Emily Espeseth, second alternate.

Poetry: Erin Brine-Doyle, fifth.

Humor: Jacob Giedd, third; William Moe, fifth; and Renee Anick, second alternate.

Prose: Angela Cole, fifth; and Ben Sullivan, first.

Extemporaneous Reading: Abby Person, third.

Great Speeches: Charlie Box, third.

Creative Expression: Allie Miller, fourth; and Katie Northenscold, third.

At sections, students will be competing for a place at the state tournament on April 20. To advance to state, students must place in the top three of their category.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
