Area Easter celebrations a hit
Easter celebrations in Pine River and Backus provided fun and entertainment for local children Sunday morning.
Pine River celebrated Easter with a “resurrection egg hunt” located at the Pine River Dam Park. Over 1500 eggs were spread throughout the park, but once the children were released, they were all found in 15 minutes. The park was separated into three sections according to age, and in each of these sections there were three special “resurrection eggs” containing items relating to the Biblical account of Easter. Items in these eggs included three coins to represent Judas’ betrayal of Jesus and a leather strip to represent the whip. There was even an empty egg to represent Jesus’ empty tomb. Finders of these prizes were awarded with prize baskets.
The Backus American Legion also hosted an easter party. Due to inclement conditions outdoors, the annual egg hunt was held indoors. Children were given the opportunity to find up to six eggs and later turn them in for prizes. After the hunt, children were treated to games like the ring toss and the fishing pond where they could win more prizes. Children were also given goodie baskets with candy and a meal prepared by American Legion members.
