Pequot Lakes man dies in crash; three others suffer serious injuries

A broadside crash on Highway 169 in Aitkin County claimed the life of a Pequot Lakes man Saturday, March 23.

Roger Langenbau, 74, died in the crash that was reported at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 169 and County Road 3.

Langenbau was driving a 1999 Cadillac DeVille east on County Road 3. The Minnesota State Patrol reported Langenbau ran the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 169 and was killed when his vehicle was hit broadside. Langenbau was not wearing a seat belt.

Langenbau’s passenger, Jerry Swenson, 69, also of Pequot Lakes, was seriously injured. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis. Swenson was wearing a seat belt, the State Patrol said.

The other vehicle, a 2011 Buick Lucerne driven by Edward Cirkl Jr., 66, Minneapolis, was traveling north on Highway 169 at the time of the crash. Cirkl and his wife and passenger, Janell Cirkl, 65, Minneapolis, were also seriously injured and taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale where he was listed in serious condition and she in fair condition Monday. Both were wearing seat belts.
