Jenkins City Council voices support of Pequot Lakes and Crosslake libraries
Krista Okerman, clerk of the City of Jenkins, was contacted by Jon Henke of Crosslake regarding a cut in funding to the Crosslake and Pequot Lakes Libraries. The libraries are a part of the Kitchigami Regional Library System (KRLS). They are facing a reduction in their budget by $20,000.
Okerman said both libraries are currently operated by volunteers, and the utilities of these buildings are paid for by city taxpayers. She further explained that the residents paid into the regional system through county taxes. Henke was not asking the City of Jenkins for a monetary contribution, but instead for a resolution of support of the efforts by the two libraries to have their $20,000 in funding reinstated.
A motion was unanimously passed in support of the KRLS affiliate libraries of Crosslake and Pequot Lakes.
