Saxhaug named majority member on Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council
State Sen. Tom Saxhaug, DFL-Grand Rapids, was named the majority member on the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council (LSOHC).
This marks Saxhaug’s second time being appointed to the council. The LSOHC consists of eight public members and four members from the Legislature.
“I look forward to working with new and returning members. Together, we will continue to strive to protect our natural resources all around our state. Minnesotans have a rich outdoor heritage and we must be good stewards of the land,” said Saxhaug. “It is critical that we continue to promote funding so we can maintain our healthy, sustainable, multi-use forests for future generations.”
The LSOHC was established by the Legislature with the responsibility of providing annual funding recommendations to the Legislature from the Outdoor Heritage Fund, one of four funds created by the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
The council has a process that ensures the recommendations are consistent with the Constitution and state law.
“Spending taxpayers’ money is always a responsibility I take very seriously, but especially with the Legacy funds. These dollars have a specific purpose and it is essential we use them wisely,” Saxhaug said.
