Ruud co-authors bill to promote tourism

State Sen. Carrie Ruud, R-Breezy Point, has co-authored a bill to dedicate existing motor vehicle rental tax money to Explore Minnesota Tourism.

The car rental tax was put into place in 1992 when Minneapolis hosted the Super Bowl. Currently motor vehicle rental tax money is deposited into the general fund; this proposal would return it to its original purpose of promoting tourism.

“The tourism industry is very important to Senate District 10, accounting for over 4,000 jobs in the district. Not only will this funding help the existing tourism industry in the district, it will help grow the industry. With an unemployment rate above 8 percent the district could use this help,” said Ruud.

Ruud encourages constituents to contact her Capitol office at 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, State Office Building, Room 25, St. Paul, MN 55155, by phone at 651-296-4913 or via email at
