A Dance and Pie Social will be held at the Blind Lake School on Saturday evening, Feb. 26. The Basore Bros. Orchestra will furnish the music. Ladies are asked to bring pies.

Through the cooperation of Joe Neuberger of the local creamery, John Rohr, Lewis Farnam and several helpers flushed the skating rink with several truck-loads of hot water Saturday. The hot water melted all the snow particles and filled in all the rough spots on the rink. The hot water was obtained from the creamery.

Participating in the Republican caucuses, which took place Tuesday evening, Feb. 23, were Chickamaw Beach, Moose Lake Township, city of Pine River, and Walden, Maple, Poplar and Wilson townships.

When you stop in or call the Pine River High School, you are often greeted by Bev Tulenchik; there’s always that friendly smile and cheery hello. We’re very proud that Bev was one of two candidates nominated for the title of Minnesota Association of Educational Office Personnel Secretary of the Year.

Fifth-grader Troy Hill wins Pine River Journal/Pine River-Backus School District Spelling Bee. Eight young gentlemen calmly took their seats in the Pine River-Backus High School gym Feb. 19, their attention focused on one thing: Spelling.

When one can’t go to Europe, it’s nice to have Europe come here to Pine River-Backus. Four foreign exchange students have done just that this year. They bring a taste of Europe to PR-B, and hopefully they will take some of the up north niceness back with them.
