Schmidt asks to see city police policy
Jack Schmidt of Pequot Lakes asked the city council Tuesday, Feb. 5, to ensure it is abiding by its police policy.
Specifically, Schmidt questioned the practice of officers leaving their squad cars running in winter. He said the council is obligated to honor whatever policy it set. He said the police chief wasn’t able to find the policy.
Council member Scott Pederson said he also couldn’t find the policy. But after doing research, he said there are good reasons for officers to leave squads running.
Mayor Nancy Adams said she would find the policy and contact Schmidt.
In other business Feb. 5, the council:
• Reassigned $110,000 from the 2012 Roads and Streets Capital Outlay to 2013 Roads and Streets Capital Outlay. The funds were left over from the budget for Government Drive improvements.
• Agreed to split design costs with Ideal Township to upgrade one mile of Nelson Road. The council approved an engineering services proposal from Widseth Smith Nolting (WSN) for $29,900.
• Asked WSN for a proposal for design for North Washington Avenue, for the block between County Road 11 and Oriole Street, to include diagonal parking on both sides of the street and 8-foot sidewalks. The council talked about different ideas and needs for that street in the future.
• Accepted the resignation of Dena Doughty from the Park Commission and appointed Josh Gibbons to that commission with a term to expire at the end of 2014.
