Manhattan Beach re-zoned north of County Road 1
Parcels of land north of County Road 1 and within the city of Manhattan Beach are being re-zoned from commercial to residential property.
The vote was unanimous among the city council Friday, Jan. 11. That meeting began Jan. 2, but recessed and was reconvened Jan. 11. Council member Marlene Yurek was absent from both meetings, according to meeting minutes from the city’s website.
Manhattan Beach Mayor Paul Allen said in a phone interview that the land was re-zoned to residential for a pending sale, which relied on the zoning change. Instead of holding a special meeting for the zoning vote, the meeting was recessed and reconvened to expedite the switch.
Allen said three or four people attended the public hearing regarding the change.
In other business during the January council meetings, the council accepted the resignation of Bill Weidenbacher from the planning and zoning commission. Mark Johnson was appointed to the vacant position.
The city of Manhattan Beach made the following annual appointments Jan. 2:
• City attorney: Virginia Knudson.
• City engineer: tentatively, Derek Anderson of Bolton and Menk will work on an as-needed basis. There is no written agreement yet.
• City accountant: Mathias Justin.
• City insurance: Agent Gerry Boe of LMCIT.
• Authorized newspaper: Northland Press. Notices will also appear on the city website.
• The city’s bank is Frandsen Bank and Trust.
• Fire protection will be provided by Crosslake Fire Department.
• Snow removal: Jerry Raph.
• Septic inspections: Martin Joyce.
