Aging population topic of League of Women Voters program

The Silver Tsunami and the Effects of Our Aging Population is the topic of the League of Women Voters of the Brainerd Lakes Area program at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Brainerd Public Library.

Speakers will be Tim Houle, Crow Wing County administrator, and DeAnn Barry, director of the Center, formerly the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center.

The program will focus on how the increase in the number of older residents may affect county finances and social service providers as the baby boomers retire and grow older.

Houle has worked in county government administration since 1994. He has a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree in public administration.

According to its website, the Center’s mission is to be a community focal point on aging, a place where mature citizens can meet and participate in activities, classes, programs and services that will support their independence, and enhance their dignity and quality of life. The Center has more than 1,500 members.

The program is open to the public.
