Fifty Lakes levy down $35k from preliminary

The Fifty Lakes City Council set the 2013 general tax levy at $487,920, which is $35,000 lower than the preliminary levy set last September.

The levy was set at the council’s Dec. 11 council meeting.

Meeting minutes show a $35,000 reduction to the 2013 levy was made from the roads department.

The 2013 levy is a $46,000 reduction from the 2012 levy, which was $533,920.

At its Jan. 8 meeting, the Fifty Lakes council made the following decisions:

• Named Greg Buchite acting mayor; the Northland Press the city’s newspaper; Tom Pearson as city attorney; and Richard Schiller as emergency management.

• Named department heads: Jodie Schrupp, liquor department; Jay Weinmann, planning and zoning; Greg Buchite, parks and public safety (fire and rescue); Les Degner, roads and maintenance and weed inspector; Mayor Ken Hersey, purchasing and personnel.

• Named BlackRidge Bank, Frandsen Bank, Lakes State Bank and Pine River State Bank as the official despositories.

• Appointed Pete Nelson and Duey Bendt as planning commission members and Robert Stancer as alternate.

• Approved fees for office services.

• Reinstated the 5 percent reduction from bar employees’ wages that was put in place in 2011.

• Amended a land use ordinance by adding decks to the list of impervious surfaces.

• Recognized price increases from the Emily Telephone Company. Basic digital increase is $1.50, and the expanded digital increase is $4.
