Breezy Point Area Women's Club announces 2013 schedule

The Breezy Point Area Women’s Club was organized Oct. 30, 1972, at Breezy Point Village Hall with 25 charter members. The club was founded as a charitable and social organization and has contributed toward many community projects and worthwhile causes through the years.

Annual membership dues are $20.

Currently, the club is involved in the following community service projects with funds for these projects provided through annual fundraisers and member dues:

Two $600 scholarships are given annually to non-traditional female students attending Central Lakes College.

Members organize and maintain donated books at the city hall library; plant and maintain the garden areas on city hall grounds; and craft tray favors in November for care center residents in Pine River and Pequot Lakes.

A monetary donation and food shelf items are donated to the Lakes Area Food Shelf annually.

Regular meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month and begin at 11:30 a.m., unless otherwise noted. The meeting programs scheduled for 2013 are:

Feb. 6: Lunch get-together, Billy’s at Breezy Point.

March 6: Lunch get-together, Antlers in Breezy Point.

April 3: First Responders/Fire Department, Jason Reiber and Tom Nelson, speakers, Pelican Lake Conservation Club in Breezy Point.

May 1: Wills, Trusts and Legal Matters, Brian Carlson, speaker, Marina II in Breezy Point.

June 5: The Art of the Scarf, JoAnn Weaver, speaker, Billy’s at Breezy Point.

July 10: Wild Flowers, Bonnie Hiniker, speaker, potluck at Breezy Point City Park. Aug. 7: Breezy Belle excursion, box lunch served on board, Breezy Point Resort.

Sept. 4: Depression/Chemical Dependency, David Anderholm, speaker, soup/salad luncheon, Pelican Lake Conservation Club in Breezy Point.

Oct. 2: Advocacy, Resources and Community (ARC), Deb Simmons, speaker.

Nov. 6: Craft for Care Centers, Pelican Lake Conservation Club in Breezy Point. Dec. 4: Annual Christmas Party/Silent Auction, location to be announced.

Membership is open to all women of the area and guests are welcome at all meetings and social events.
