Organizations make holidays brighter for others
They say it’s better to give than to receive. And there are plenty of opportunities to give in the lakes area this holiday season.
Following are opportunities to help others have a brighter holiday season.
Christmas For Kids South
Christmas For Kids seeks donations to help less fortunate families in the Nisswa, Merrifield, Lake Shore, Pequot Lakes, Ideal Township, Jenkins and Breezy Point areas this holiday season.
Each year, the nonprofit organization takes applications and buys each child a new outfit, a pair of warm pajamas and a couple of items from their wish list.
Schaefer’s Foods in Nisswa helps provide each family with a holiday meal.
To lend a helping hand, send donations to: Christmas For Kids, 1332 County Road 29, Lake Shore, MN 56468. The organization also welcomes new, unwrapped gifts for older teens.
A Christmas tree at Schaefer’s Foods has paper ornaments with wish list items. People are welcome to take an ornament, buy the gift and take it to Schaefer’s.
The organization also is still accepting applications from families in need. Applications are available at the Pequot Lakes or Nisswa chambers or at Schaefer’s Foods in Nisswa.
For more information, or if you know anyone who could benefit from the program, call Katie Wagener at 218-851-2211.
Also, volunteers are sought to help wrap gifts for families at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at the Nisswa Community Center.
Wrapping paper, tags and tape will be provided, as well as food. Those who volunteer are asked to bring scissors.
Santa’s Diva’s Day
The sixth annual Santa’s Diva’s Day at Maucieri’s in Crosslake is a benefit for the Christmas for Kids North group.
The event will be from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Maucieri’s in Crosslake. The event will include vendors, silent and live auctions, and raffles.
All proceeds go to less fortunate children in the Crosslake area to have a merry Christmas.
Bring a new, unwrapped gift or cash donation for a child of any age and receive a free beverage from Maucieri’s.
Also, toy collection sites include Larson Group Real Estate in Crosslake Town Square and Maucieri’s in Crosslake. Send cash donations to: Maucieri’s, c/o Dawn Maucieri, 34650 County Road 3, Crosslake, MN 56442.
Families in need can get applications at Crosslake City Hall, but must do so before Saturday.
Emily, Outing, Fifty Lakes
Lakers Lions Club
The Emily, Outing, Fifty Lakes Lions Clubs buys toys and clothes each year for needy children in the Emily, Outing and Fifty Lakes area. Items are distributed to families through the Emily-Outing-Fifty Lakes Area Food Shelf.

Participants brought unwrapped new toys or cash donations for the Christmas for Kids program.
