Ham & Asparagus Strata

12 slices (1/2” thick, 4” diameter) French or Italian bread (approx. 4 oz.) You do need a crusty bread for this recipe.

1 cup shredded Italian cheese blend (4 oz.)


1 cup chopped cooked ham (4 oz.)

8 oz. fresh asparagus, cut into 1-inch pieces (2 cups) This time of year you may have to use canned or frozen asparagus.

6 eggs

1 cup milk

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8-inch square baking dish or spray with non-stick cooking spray. Place one-half of the bread in a single layer in the dish.

Top evenly with layers one-half of the cheese, ham and asparagus. Cover with the remaining bread, placing slices flat. Repeat layering with cheese, ham and asparagus.

In a medium bowl, beat together eggs, milk, lemon juice and garlic powder. Mix until well blended. Pour over the layers in the baking dish.

Baked for 40 to 50 minutes, until puffed and golden, and until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
