Pine River Lions Club welcomes new members

The Pine River Lions Club recently welcomed new members after the first membership invitational event at the Pine River American Legion.

New members are Roger and Wendy Hoplin, Steve and Tammy Sherwood, Renee Stranne and Sean Hesse.

Nisswa Lion Jim Dullum gave the keynote address.

The Pine River Lions also awarded two scholarships to Pine River-Backus (PR-B) seniors. A $300 scholarship was presented to Drey Loge and a $150 scholarship was given to the PR-B Scholarship Committee to be awarded to a senior the committee chooses.

The club will host its annual Take A Kid Fishing event Wednesday, May 28, with all Pine River-Backus fourth-grade students taking a fishing trip on Norway Lake. The Lions provide fishing hosts, tackle and bait. This has been an annual event for many years.

The Pine RIver Lions will conduct two road cleanup projects in May, one on Highway 371 and one along Highway 84.

Other upcoming club events include the Summerfest pancake breakfast, managing the food booth at the Cass County Fair and acting as camping host for the annual Lakes Bluegrass Festival in Pine River on Aug. 22-25.
