Benefit dinner planned for Tammy Hayes

The Pequot Lakes Fire Department will host a benefit dinner and silent auction for Tammy Hayes, wife of Pequot Lakes volunteer firefighter John Hayes, from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Pequot Lakes Baptist Church/Trailside Center in Pequot Lakes.

Tammy was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme cancer on Sept. 17. The cancer has spread throughout her brain. She had surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible, and she is currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.

Tammy is an active member of the community; she worked as the director at Honey Tree Daycare in Jenkins up until her diagnosis and is an active member of the Pequot Lakes/Breezy Point Early Childhood Coalition. She and John have been married for 23 years. John is part owner of Neumann Construction. He has been a volunteer firefighter with the Pequot Lakes Fire Department for seven years and was previously with the Avon Fire Department. He is an active member of the local Brush Pilots and antique snowmobile clubs.

Their three children are Amanda (23), Michelle (20) and Evan (17).

All proceeds from the spaghetti dinner and silent auction will help offset the cost of treatments and other expenses associated with Tammy’s illness. Cost for the spaghetti dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Monetary donations are being accepted at Lakes State Bank, 30886 Second St., Pequot Lakes, MN 56472, to the Tammy Hayes Benefit Account.
