Taste of the Lakes winners announced

The 25th annual Kinship Partners Taste of the Lakes fundraiser was held Friday, Nov. 22, at Grand View Lodge in Nisswa, where 16 chefs brought their most delectable starters, entrees and desserts to serve the sold-out gathering.

Guest culinary judges Steve Shapley and Denny Cowen of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Minneapolis presented awards in each category. Winners were:

• Best Starter: Baxter Bar & Grill at The Arrowwood Lodge at Brainerd Lakes for Butternut Squash Bisque with Hazelnut Crème Fraiche.

• Best Entrée: Prairie Bay Grill & Catering for Lobster Brandade Garlic Toaste.

• Best Dessert: Marina II at Breezy Point Resort for Deconstructed Banana Split Royale.

The traveling People’s Choice Award, which is voted on by the guests in attendance, was presented to Iven’s on the Bay, which served Slow Roasted Pork Tenderloin, Apple-Raisin Compote, Caramelized Onion, Yam Bread Pudding, Curried Coconut Panna Cotta, Pineapple Tamarind Chutney and Fresh Jicama.

For more than 27 years the Kinship Partners youth mentoring program has provided positive role models to youth in Crow Wing and southern Cass counties and now the Staples/Motley area.

Kinship matches volunteer adult partners (mentors) with children ages 5-14 who have common interests.
