Backus Legion, Auxiliary to host holiday activities

Christmas parties for adults and children, a gift-giving program for needy children, Christmas Eve day reception and classic New Year’s Eve are included in holiday activities at the Backus American Legion and Auxiliary.

The annual Christmas and Customer Appreciation Party will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. It includes complimentary food and door prizes, a visit from Santa Claus, a 50-package ham and turkey raffle and musical comedy at 5:45 p.m. presented by the post’s Usual Suspects Theater Co.

The Kids’ Christmas Party, for children 10 and under, will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. It includes a goodie bag, gift project, visit from Santa and a complimentary lunch.

The post is also participating in the Hackensack Area Chamber of Commerce annual Giving Tree program, which provides gifts for children from needy families in the Backus-Hackensack area. Tags with the ages, gender and Christmas wishes of children from those families will be attached to the post’s lounge Christmas tree beginning Tuesday, Dec. 3. Those who want to provide a gift should pick up a tag and return it with the gift to the Legion by Monday. Dec. 9.

The post is hosting a Christmas Eve Day reception Tuesday, Dec. 24, with complimentary Tom and Jerry drinks and hors d’oeuvres from noon to 4 p.m. when the clubrooms will close.

The annual Classic New Year’s Eve Party will be Tuesday, Dec. 31, beginning with hospitality time at 5:30 p.m. The $25 per person event includes guaranteed reserved seating for the evening, choice of a prime rib or breaded shrimp dinner at 7 p.m., gratuities included, dancing to the Frankie Lamb Band from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., party favors, late night snacks, champagne and a midnight Auld Lang Syne sing-along-with the band.

Reservations can be made by calling the post at 947-3156 or the Dawsons at 947-3416 and are preferred by Dec. 15 but will be taken later on a space available basis. Payment will be taken at the door.
