Volunteer Trainings Scheduled for Faith in Action Neighbors Helping Neighbors

How are you called to serve your community? Are you seeking a place to share your gifts and talents?  Concerned about liability or sensitive about asking how to help?

Faith in Action for Cass County is accepting applications for “Compassionate Volunteers Service People in Need” and for board of directors members to guide and shape the program for 2014-15 as it looks to meet the needs of people in our area.

Faith in Action is a nonprofit, community-based program that connects volunteers to people in the community who need transportation, friendly visiting and respite, light homemaking and chore services and small home repair projects. Volunteers are matched according to the time they have available and the talents they wish to share.

More than 65 percent of the people served are older adults who need a little extra neighborly help to remain living and thriving in our communities.  Faith in Action board members provide the oversight and direction to the staff and volunteers who provide services by attending quarterly board meetings and participating in committee activities.

Volunteers receive training, coordination, liability insurance and mileage reimbursement.

Faith in Action volunteer trainings are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 6 in the Backus/Pine River area and 1-3 p.m. Nov. 8 in Walker.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
