First Responder speaks at Breezy Point Women's Club meeting

The Breezy Point Area Women’s Club met Oct. 2 at Billy’s at Breezy Point, where a new slate of officers for 2014 was presented to the membership for approval.

They are: president, Mary Lou Most; vice president, Sandy Sumner; co-secretaries, Lynne Johnson and Jane Gustafson; and treasurer, Lorinda Jeffers.

A donation of $200 was given to Terri Spielman for the First Responders.

Spielman, who is an instructor of CPR for the American Heart Association and a First Responder, gave a demonstration on “Annie” for “hands only” CPR.

She also went through the warning signs of a heart attack, focusing on women. Spielman emphasized the importance of calling 911 first while coming to the aid of a victim of an apparent heart attack because every minute is crucial.

There was a lively discussion on the Heimlich method of helping a person who is choking.
