Consider mentoring a girl

Kinship Partners has a waiting list of more than 30 children waiting for mentors.

Overall, the majority are boys. But in the Lake Country Office, serving the school districts of Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus, an urgent plea is being made for women and couples to consider mentoring girls.

Are you a woman who enjoys crocheting or knitting? Do you prefer getting a little dirty and jumping on the four-wheeler? Are you a book worm? Or can you put your own worm on the fish hook?

There are girls waiting for women to include them in their favorite pastimes.

Some of these girls would enjoy the companionship of a special female role model all their own. Others have no men in their lives and would benefit from time spent with a husband/wife mentoring combination. We have girls from larger families and some without siblings that would have fun with a family mentoring experience.

Research shows that mentoring works! Offering a child a few hours of your time weekly for at least one year provides meaningful, lasting results.

Are you able to make that commitment? Please consider talking about the need for mentors in your social circles, over coffee, at the workplace and in places you gather. Kinship Partners staff is always happy to speak before groups and share the ways to get involved.
