RSVP volunteer celebration held

Cass County’s annual Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) volunteer celebration was held Thursday, Sept. 19, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Backus. All RSVP members and station managers from 17 volunteer sites were invited to attend. Seventy people were in attendance for the noon round-up catered by Jr’s No. 19 BBQ.

This year’s event had a hoedown theme: “We tip our hat to y’all!” RSVP Director Tammy Jopp and Volunteer Services Coordinator Jane Furuseth shared that so far in 2013 Cass County volunteers have reported 9,990 hours of service to area communities. Each volunteer in attendance received a packet of envelopes and postage stamps as an appreciation gift.

Musical entertainment was provided by Tim and Jan Marr. The Marrs are from Longville and are frequently seen at area events. Their regular summer gig is the pre-show entertainment at the Wood Tick Musical Theater in Akeley. The Marrs had a fun, interactive show for the volunteer celebration.

The event concluded with door prizes. Seventeen winners took home mums, indoor houseplants or gift certificates donated by G&S Plants, Mike’s Garden Center and County Garden Center.

Many thanks go to the Cass County Advisory Council for planning a fun event for the volunteers. Advisory council members include Faith Widman, Barb and Ernie Waldron, Virginia Tostenson, James Stauffer, Lavonne Solarz, Karen Nytes, Irene Holden, Sharon Gramm and Myrna Dunnuck.
