75 years ago, Aug. 25, 1938

From the Pine River Journal

At a beautifully decorated breakfast table with banana dolls dressed in black silk holding lighted candles, a three-course breakfast was served to six guests at the Herb Kline home Tuesday morning in honor of Florence Kline’s 12th birthday. Guests included Juanita Swartz, Patsy Cromett, Arlene Ast, Louis Triggs and Hazel Flynn.

50 years ago, Aug. 30, 1963

From the Pine River Journal

George Pearsall of Pine River won a “Master Angler” award in Manitoba. The Minnesota angler gets a bronze badge and a special certificate for landing a 19-pound northern pike from Nutimik Lake on a recent fishing trip.

Over last weekend there was a Sarcup mission on for CAP. That is a statewide search for a downed aircraft. Units from this area were in the sections of Crookston to Grand Rapids, where the aircraft was finally located.

CASS COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES are having a busy summer investigating reports of teenage beer parties throughout the county. Sheriff Jim Dowson states that several underaged individuals have been arrested for minor consuming at these parties and several people have been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor as the result of the investigations.

(photo caption) THE “HOLE” STORY. To repair the sewer on Barclay Avenue necessitates digging deep to get at the source. Some of the protective equipment is used now to protect workers and the shovel operator “knows what he’s doing”.
