Union Church in Hackensack to host speaker on Sunday

Leonard Fineday, director of legal affairs for the Leech Lake Band of Ojibway, will give a presentation at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Union Church in Hackensack, where brunch will be served.

The Union Church Board of Christian Learning in cooperation with the Justice Ministry Team will host Fineday in a discussion of “Blood Quantum and Land Ownership.” The federal government over the years has differently defined who is and is not an American Indian. These definitions have had critically important implications for ownership and use of tribal lands.

Fineday was at Union two years ago with Eli Hunt for a forum on the history of the Leech Lake reservation.
