Waiting for a Mentor

Email News Alerts

Kinship Partners hopes to sweeten the lives of two young girls from the Pequot Lakes area.

Meet Kira, a fourth-grader who lives with dad, two older sisters and a younger brother. She loves dance and drawing, has been in Girl Scouts and hopes to learn to ice skate.

The family is adjusting to a recent move to a new home and Kira needs a little reassurance and time just to relax and play. She craves “girl time” — painting nails, craft projects and happy chatter with a trusted new adult friend.

Kira also likes animals and dreams of becoming a vet someday.

Dena, with a smile sure to delight, will be entering first grade in the fall. She describes herself as “funny and silly” and is thrilled to be learning to read. Dena loves to keep moving and will entertain you with somersaults and cartwheels.

Perhaps she will be a ballerina or volleyball player, she says.

Much time is spent playing with her doll house, riding bike or coloring. Dena wants to go swimming with her Kinship mentor. Mom hopes that either a woman or couple steps forward to share time with her little girl.

Summer time is an especially lonely time for children without the strong support system offered by additional caring adults. Offering a few hours every week to children like Kira and Dena will spice up their long hours. It will sugar-coat your days, as well.

Kinship Partners serves families in Crow Wing and southern Cass counties and the Staples/Motley area by providing positive role models to youth ages 5 to 14. Kinship has offices in Pequot Lakes, Brainerd, Crosby and Staples.

For information on these girls or any of the children waiting for mentors, call 218-454-8016 or email lakes@kinshippartners.org. Visit www.kinshippartners.org.
