Pine River-Backus Family Center August Happenings

Summer hours: Monday 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday 1-4 p.m., Wednesday noon-4 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Hidden Jewels Thrift Store: Open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are in need of volunteers who would like to donate some of their time to helping in our non-profit thrift store. See Brenda for more information or call 587-4292.

WIC: Will be here Aug. 7 and 8.

Pine River Area Food Shelf: Open every Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the basement of First Lutheran Church. Donation of your excess garden produce would be greatly appreciated. The Family Center continues to look for partners wishing to participate in planning with our “Community Close-Up” efforts to close our missing meal gap. Call the Family Center to find out the next meeting date.

The Family Center’s Home Visiting Program: Has immediate openings for first-time expectant mothers who would like additional support with their pregnancy and parenting their child until age three. Free prenatal gift bags are available to women who are expecting a baby and who live in the Pine River-Backus School District.

MAC/NAPS: Pick up is from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 13.

Child & Teen Check-Up: Will be here Aug. 22 and 23. Appointments are still available. Call Karen at 587-4292 to get your appointment scheduled.

Working Together Coalition: Is looking for people to compete in the Amazing Race. More details are available at

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
