(Announcement) We wish to thank the people of this community and the surrounding country for their kind patronage during all these years we have been in business in Pine River. Especially do we remember, at this time, the many friends who faithfully have traded with us in the past 30 years. Thank you! The dedication ceremonies held at the park last Wednesday evening were decidedly successful in every way. A large crowd was present and the talks by Dan Delury of Walker and the Revs. MacKinney, Peterson and Huss were well received.

(Headline) Press Women Enjoy Weekend At Breezy Point and Pine River Resorts

Radio equipment has now been received by the Pine River CAP Squadron, and when all is completed it will enable ground to air contact on all searches. There is always plenty of work to be done on any equipment received by the squadron, but with a good bunch does not present too much of a problem.

Gov. Rudy Perpich came into “enemy territory” Wednesday when he arrived at McGuire’s Piney Ridge Resort to have a meeting about the draw-down of waters from Lake Winnibigoshish. Perpich was accompanied by Ron Norgang, director of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources water division, and they explained that the waters from Lake Winnie would be taken only if the water was needed to “provide reasonable levels for power production.”

Dr. Ronald Prouty recently purchased the Heartland Chiropractic office here from Dr. Tom Rachie.

Cass County authorities report a Cass County deputy sheriff was struck by a vehicle shortly after 1 a.m. Aug. 2 as he was assisting other officers in directing traffic at an accident scene on Highway 371, approximately two miles south of Pine River.

Lakeside Baptist Church is celebrating a centennial of faith in the Backus community this year.

Budget cuts this year forced the University of Minnesota Extension Service to shift to a regional system rather than one with offices in each county. And, while Pine River wasn’t on the list of 18 regional centers, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the service will be leaving Barclay Avenue.
