Plans are rapidly being formulated for Cass County Dairy Day to be held in Pine River on June 15.

Bungo Community Picnic will be held at the Town Hall (Old Pine Forrest School) on June 9 beginning with a potluck dinner at 1:30 p.m. Coffee and kool-aid furnished by the North Star 4-H Club will be served free to everyone.

Nerds Day winners at the Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Home were Steve Gearey and Sue Roubal.

The winner of the free grocery spree at Godfrey’s Super Valu was Michelle Holden of Backus. Her register receipt totalled $85.58 in the 60-second shopping spree. She was the winner of the Beat the Clock Sale.

Fifteen Pine River volunteer firefighters recently added “First Responder” to their training and qualifications. They, along with two firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and one firefighter/paramedic, hope to provide emergency medical service to the 11 cities and townships served by the Pine River Fire Department.

Forest History Center’s first “Logging Berry Festival” focuses on an often overlooked fruit, the prune, in forest history. The site celebrates the beginning of the season with lighthearted events such as “prune in a spoon” races, prunes on a stick, a “dress a prune” contest and food samples in the site’s cook shack.
