Ride for Healing starts May 27
The Brainerd-Baxter area will be a focal point of the Ride for Healing, a motorcade of motorcycles and classic cars, which begins May 27.
The event is the 2013 Veterans of Foreign Wars Minnesota State Commander’s project.
The state commander, Lee Ulferts, is a Vietnam veteran and has chosen this as a fundraising event for the Vietnam Education Center in Washington, D.C. Vietnam veterans will be recognized throughout the state.
The event will kick off on Memorial Day, May 27, at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul where four teams of classic cars and motorcycles will begin a journey to the four corners of our state visiting local VFW Posts along the way. They will spend the next four days on the road visiting 60 communities.
The four teams will arrive in the Brainerd/Baxter area on May 31. Events are planned throughout the week at Cragun’s Resort and the Traveling Wall will arrive at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds in Brainerd on May 30.
A commemoration event is planned at the fairgrounds at 1 p.m. June 1 along with a banquet and candlelight vigil at Cragun’s at night. All events are open to the public.
