Emily is still waiting for a Kinship Partner

Mentoring a child can help a young person soar to new heights. For fifth-grader Emily, that statement is spot on!

Emily loves to jump, whether it’s long jump, jump rope or on the trampoline. And she might give your own spirits a lift, as well.

Emily lives with her mom and older brother. She is eager to learn new things and is fascinated by music and theatre, horses, reading, and experimenting in the kitchen. Her mother is looking for someone to come alongside her as a mentor — to talk with and go for walks, and not to spend money on entertainment.

It’s all about spending time, and Emily’s mom realizes how important it is for her daughter to have many caring adults interested in her well-being. Emily would also like to explore her interests in sports and exercise.

Statistically, more women than men become mentors. However, six of the eight children waiting for mentors in the Kinship Lake Country Office, serving the Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus school districts, are girls. Emily has been waiting for nine months for a family mentoring experience or one-on-one with an active and sensitive woman.

That is much too long.

Kinship Partners serves families in Crow Wing and southern Cass counties and the Staples/Motley area by providing positive role models to youth ages 5 to 14. We have offices in Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, Crosby and Staples.

Would you consider stretching your wings and taking flight as a mentor to Emily?
