Participants will assemble a notebook with their written instructions and wishes regarding their own death, which will be available to their families at a time when decision-making can be a burden in a time of grief.

The death of a loved one plunges family immediately into making decisions and it is often a time of confusion and frustration. There are more than 50 decisions that must be made in the first 24 hours following a death.

One of the best gifts we can give for our own peace of mind and to ease the burden of those we leave behind is a record of our wishes and other information that will be of benefit to them. Life insurance, a will, funeral wishes and a list of people to notify are a few of the important matters that need our attention now in order to avoid confusion, extra expense and undue anxiety for those left behind. Such pre-planning is an act of love.

Craig Dennis and Jay Kline, local funeral directors, will cover topics like pre-planning your funeral, options for burials, dying away from home and ways to save money by making the proper notifications and other related topics.

Pastors Judy Gustafson and Michael Small will present information and lead discussions of church services, memorial services, putting together a service, graveside services and other options. They will answer questions about why we have services, scripture, music and other concerns.

Marty Mann, parish nurse, will discuss and assist in completing an Advanced Directive. She will lead participants in assembling the notebook, reviewing information for writing an obituary, letters to family and other specific information.

Pre-registration is required, along with a $20 fee to reserve a place. Class size is limited and lunch and all supplies are included. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with coffee and treats.

To register, call the church office at 675-6300. For more information contact Marty Mann at 675-2283.
