Free tax help available for all ages

Volunteers have been trained and certified by the IRS and state of Minnesota to assist in preparing federal and state income tax returns. Help to prepare Minnesota property tax or renters refund will also be available. This program is co-sponsored by the IRS, state of Minnesota and AARP.

People of all ages are welcome to designated handicap accessible sites. Bring Social Security cards (tax forms will be adjusted if incorrect Social Security numbers and names are given to counselors), W-2s, 1099s, last year’s tax forms, child care expenses and any other information needed to complete tax forms.

Bring 2012 and 2013 property tax statements to complete federal taxes. E-filers must bring Social Security cards for proper input information. 2012 property tax refund requires a 2013 property tax statement for homeowners and 2012 CRPs for renters’ refund.

For more information about this service, contact Patty Herheim, Cass County district coordinator, at 218-342-3373; Carolyn Rude at 218-547-2085; or the counselors listed.

Sites will be open through April 15.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
