A Free talking picture of the new Allis-Chalmers Tractor and all-crop Harvester will be given at the Marlow Theatre in Pine River, on Saturday afternoon, March 19. The free show is being sponsored by the Gilbert Implement Co. of Wadena.

Improving Cocoa - The flavor of hot cocoa or chocolate may be improved by adding one-fourth teaspoon of vanilla to each cup of milk.

From the Pine River Journal

Mrs. John Ludke of Fifty Lakes is Grand Champion of the 1964 Brainerd Dispatch Cook Book Contest. She is the former Darlene Robinson. She entered a recipe for Apple Kuchen, which won first place.

Condolences go to Game Warden Fred Venning who had the misfortune last week of suffering a broken leg. Fred was walking on an icy portion of Pine River sidewalk when he took the tumble.

St. Paul - A bill authorizing creation of the 100-mile Paul Bunyan Trail between Baxter and Bemidji was approved unanimously this morning by the Minnesota House Environment and Natural Resources Committee.

There’s a saying around Backus High School that “we don’t care how many games we lose as long as we beat Pine River.”

The Pine River-Backus Special Olympians traveled to New York Mills for the regional basketball tournament on March 5. The athletes included: Jordan Nelson, red ribbon; Susan Hopkins, red ribbon; Kaitlin Majernick, red ribbon; Shawn Adkins, yellow ribbon; David Leek, yellow ribbon and Charles Rubitschung, white ribbon.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
