Guests entering Senior Class Care assisted living facility in Pequot Lakes on Thursday, Feb. 14, immediately found themselves in a makeshift “chapel.”

Residents and guests sat on either side of the white aisle strewn with pink paper petals that flower girl Honor St. John dropped there.

The front of the “chapel” was adorned with streamers, balloons, bows, bells and flowers. Soft piano music wafted into the room that included three couples who have been married for a combined 130 years.

The mood was festive.

The scene was set for the Valentine’s Day non-wedding of resident Virginia Wilson and adult day services client Bill Doolittle of Breezy Point.

“I, Virginia Wilson, take you, Bill, as my non-husband,” Wilson repeated after “officiant” Carmen Schnoor, a Senior Class Care aide, as those in the audience chuckled.

“I, George Bill Doolittle, take you, Ginny, as my non-wife,” Doolittle repeated after Schnoor.

When vows were complete and rings exchanged, the non-couple walked down the aisle as confetti was thrown and bubbles blown. They had their first non-dance before the non-bride and non-groom retired to the dining room with their guests for dinner.

Where did this non-couple sit? At the head table, of course, under a sign that read “Just Married.”
