Fire strikes — again. Misener’s Bakery in Pequot Lakes succumbed to flames Sunday night. Firemen waged a successful fight in containing the blaze to the bakery, but that building was gutted.

To gain a firsthand impression of the “new” Navy, David Sjoblad, Pequot Lakes High School counselor, will join 44 other high school educators in a visit to the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Ill., Feb. 7-9.

(photo) Pete Birkeland, No. 33 of the Indians, blocks No. 45 Brad Hahn’s jump shot in the Indians’ 55-54 win over Verndale’s Pirates on Friday. Birkeland led the Indians in scoring with 19 points.

Francis Fraser’s fire chief hat was retired after he served 13 years as Crosslake fire chief. Bob Garin is the newly elected Crosslake fire chief.

Pequot-Jenkins Firest Responders held election of officers at their Jan. 19 club meeting. For the 1993 term, Ray Steffens was re-elected as president; Rev. Vic Dorn, vice president; Marlene Chamberlain, secretary; and Glen Krieg, treasurer.

Lake Shore Mayor Gil Ponsness was joined by Tim Moore and Bill Ewing, both elected last fall, and by newly appointed member John Solsten at the first meeting of the year. Incumbent council member Gary Crocker was also present.

Jason Baca is a young man with a mission. The Pequot Laks man spends about six months each year in Mexico working with the farmers who belong to a coffee growers cooperative.

The American Heart Association announced that Pequot Lakes resident JoLeta Goble-Buss will be the chairperson for the 2003 Brainerd Lakes Area American Heart Walk.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
