(photo) Whopper — Ray Dowling of Nisswa speared this 17 1/2-pound northern from Cullen last week. Even though the fishing has been slow in some areas, Cullen has been producing some good-sized fish.

Barb Uppgaard, Crosslake, was honored recently with an Outstanding School Board Member Award for 1983. Uppgaard has been a member of the Pequot Lakes School Board since 1974.

It's believed a fire at the Manhattan Beach Club started in the basement of the club and motel. The Crosslake Fire Department extinguished the blaze but it rekindled.

It’s been 10 years since Paul Bunyan Trail promoter Terry McGaughey first suggested a 100-mile recreational trail extending from Brainerd to Bemidji. A decade later, the trail is a reality. Snowmobilers are using it.
