Benefit golf tournament for Cass County 4-H State Fair Scholarship Fund planned

A four-person team scramble golf tournament to raise money for Cass County 4-H participants exhibiting at the Minnesota State Fair will be held Sunday, June 9, at the Black Bear Golf Course south of Backus.

The tournament is open to 22 teams and features a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $50 a person for non-Black Bear members and $27 for members. All proceeds will go to pay expenses for Cass County 4-Hers who will be exhibiting at the Minnesota State Fair. Deadline for entries is June 5.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams, to individuals with closest to the pin drives on par 3 holes and to players with the longest putts on holes 9 and 18. Awards will be made following the tournament at a reception and complimentary lunch for players and sponsors at the Backus American Legion at Highways 87 and 84 West.

Entry forms are available at the Backus Corner Store, Black Bear Golf Course, Charlie’s Up North, Bjerga’s Feed Store, Longville Country Club, Hackensack American Legion and the Backus American Legion. They can also be downloaded from the website

Hole sponsors at a minimum of $50 a hole are also being sought to support the event. Teams and sponsors should make checks payable to the 4-H State Fair Scholarship Fund.
