The Pequot Lakes and Nisswa fire departments worked with young children and hosted annual open houses to spread the message of fire safety during Fire Prevention Week.

Pequot Lakes firefighters talked to kindergartners and first- and second-graders, as well as preschool students. An open house Wednesday, Oct. 9, attracted hundreds of people who rode in a fire truck, saw a kitchen fire demonstration, toured the Cuyuna Range Fire Chiefs Fire Safety House, tried on firefighting gear, jumped in the bouncy house and sprayed a hose at a mock house to knock down mock flames.

Nisswa firefighters did a presentation at Nisswa Elementary School for students and staff, and they hosted their annual public open house Saturday, Oct. 12. That event featured the DNR’s Smokey Bear, fire hose spraying, Fire Safety House, bouncy house and auto extrication, kitchen fire, fire extinguisher and propane tank fire demonstrations.
