One volunteer, Lorraine Enos of Hackensack, has driven more than 27,000 miles in the five and a half years she has been a volunteer driver, going above and beyond the call of duty in service to others.

“I love meeting new people,” Enos said. “This is the best ‘job’ I’ve ever had.”

Faith in Action volunteer drivers provide transportation to the clinic, grocery store, food shelf, church or medical appointments, occasionally as far away as Fargo, N.D., St. Cloud or Duluth.

“The miles covered give volunteers plenty of time to enjoy conversation and friendship many of our care receivers need,” said Theresa Eclov, Faith in Action director. “It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Faith in Action volunteers also help out closer to home with friendly visits and respite, phone reassurance, meal delivery or assistance with housework or chores, or small home repairs.

Consider volunteering with Faith in Action for Cass County to meet new people, get to know your neighbors better and be an integral part of your community. Your assistance could go a long way toward helping someone stay in their home.

Since everyone has different talents and amounts of time to help others, volunteering with Faith in Action is tailored toward your time. You can choose to help with chores, friendly visiting (men and women), transportation, light housekeeping or respite.

Help is especially needed at this time of year with friendly visiting and homemaking assistance.
