The Pine River Library came out the winner after hosting its first Cupcake Wars on Saturday, Aug. 3, at The Warehouse in Pine River.

The event raised about $500 for the library to use toward computer updates.

A dozen teams baked fancy and themed cupcakes, and decorated their tables. Members of the public then bought tickets to taste cupcakes, and voted for their favorite cupcakes and best decorated table.

Kris Kayser and Jenny Hill of Stone Woman Herbals won the overall grand champion award and the most sales. Pine River Girl Scout Troop 639 won the table display category.

The second annual Cupcake Wars event is set for August 2014. To further tie in to the library, participants will be asked to dress as a character from a book and bring the book as part of the table display.
