Independence Day celebrated at Stars & Stripes events

On a hot July 3 with temperatures flirting with 90 degrees, many spent the evening in Trailside Park in Pequot Lakes participating in many of the events like pig races and bed races, going on a moon jump ride, listening to music and watching fireworks after dusk.

Crowds packed the streets July 4 for the annual Stars & Stripes Parade.

Following are event winners.


Most Patriotic: Pequot Lakes Library, first; Pequot Brush Pilots, second; American Legion Motorcycle Riders of Osseo and Maple Grove Post 172, third.

Best Youth: Moe’s Contracting & Landscaping, first; Breezy Point Figure Skating Club, second; Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pine Troop, third.

Most Original: Rick Beyer, A-Pine Restaurant (1925 Federal Knight Fire Truck, first; Dave Trees (1930 Model A Coupe Street Rod), second; Larry Buschmann (1956 Crown Victoria), third.

Best Commercial: Merritt Jewelers, first; Lakes State Bank, second; Pine River State Bank, third.

Bed races
