Eagles, Black Bear 4-H members earn State Fair trips with skits

The Crow Wing County 4-H Program held its annual Share the Fun performance Sunday, May 5, at St. Francis School in Brainerd.

Participating in Share the Fun allows youth involved to actively experience the process of creating and directing a skit, learning stage terms, working together, then presenting a performance for the public.

This is a county level event and any club or individual 4-H member may participate. Each performance is expected to follow certain criteria set at state level.

The Pequot Lakes Eagles 4-H club earned its sixth State Fair trip with its first-place skit titled “4GRT News,” which centered around a TV news broadcast and incorporated aspects of 4-H.

Club members have varied interests, but the majority of these youth have interests in the performing arts and participate in activities such as band, choir, ballet, Just for Kix, community theater, college theater and performances at the county fair.

The Black Bear 4-H club also earned a State Fair trip for its second-place finish with a skit titled “We’ve Got the Beat.”

The eight Black Bear 4-H members who created the club’s skit wanted to do something different and unique. Their skit featured synchronized hand movements and allowed each of the participants a speaking part to share their feelings about an aspect of 4-H.

Black Bear participants will be looking for other events at which to perform this skit and promote 4-H. Contact Cindy Terwilliger at 963-0309 if you’d like to arrange for a performance.

Other performing opportunities available through the Crow Wing County 4-H program include Arts In and, for the first time this year, a Flash Mob will be presented at the Crow Wing County Fair.
