'Creative floats, terrific bands' entertain Crosslake St. Patrick's Day parade-goers
More than 8,000 lucky leprechauns united Saturday, March 16, in Crosslake to conquer Mother Nature and enjoy the Brainerd Lakes Chamber’s Crosslake St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Celebration.
The snow-covered streets and sidewalks as well as the 60-degree drop in temperature from the 2012 parade did not deter those who enjoyed the sun-filled day and the nearly 100 parade entries.
“We had a great day for a parade,” said Cindy Myogeto, Crosslake area director for the Brainerd Lakes Chamber. “Thank you to our many local businesses pulling creative floats and the terrific bands for providing great family entertainment.”
Myogeto thanked the many generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers who are responsible for supporting this community festival.
The 2013 Best in Float honors were awarded to Maucieri’s, Inc., first place; Whitefish Lodge & Suites, second place; and The Celtic Cottage, third place.
The Best Nonprofit Float was awarded to Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway Association and honorable mention to Girl Scouts Troop No. 16.
The BL Broadcasting/WJJY Enthusiasm Award was presented to Moonlite Bay Family Restaurant & Bar “Rainbow Float” rocking with DJ “JP” with Premier Party Entertainment.
Other parade highlights included the Vikings Skol Drum Line, The Dirty Shorts Band, Chmielewski Funtime Band, Janel Klein of KARE-TV, grand marshals Roger and Nancy Schwieters and more.
The Pot O’ Gold Treasure was found Friday, March 15, by area siblings Matt and Ashley Archambault in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Crosslake campground in lucky site No. 17.
The 40th annual Crosslake St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Celebration will be Saturday, March 15, 2014.
