As lakes area residents prepare to ring in the new year of 2013, readers can take a look back at the highlights — and lowlights — of 2012.

Our communities lost several prominent residents in 2012, and deserving Citizens of the Year were honored in Pequot Lakes-Breezy Point and Nisswa.

Legislative boundaries were redrawn and area communities will have new representation in 2013. November elections returned veterans and newcomers alike to local offices.

Pequot Lakes sports teams and individuals returned to state tournaments. A popular Pequot Lakes High School interim principal retired, and the school construction projects continue.
