Heartland Poets to host fall conference Oct. 12-13 in Baxter

Heartland Poets, an area chapter of the League of Minnesota Poets (LOMP), will host the league’s 2012 fall conference “Poet Laureate Octoberfest” on Oct. 12-13 at Arrowwood Lodge in Baxter.

Friday night, winners from the 28th annual LOMP contest will be announced and read, after a 5 p.m. dinner in The Lodge Club Room and a report by Moccasin editor Meredith Cook.

Saturday morning will begin with a poetry reading by participants, followed by a general meeting at which time student contest winners will be announced and read.

Joyce Sutphen, keynote speaker, will share her writing insights.

After a catered lunch, poems submitted with registration will receive critique, without revealing author identities. Door prizes will close the conference.

A public reading by Minnesota poet laureate Joyce Sutphen will be held at Central Lakes College at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Commons Area. This reading is made possible, in part, by the Five Wings Arts Council through the McKnight Foundation.

Heartland Poets, The League of Minnesota Poets and The Center for Lifelong Learning are partnering to bring this arts event to the Brainerd lakes area.
