Legacy Chorale auditions slated June 5, 7
The Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota, a choral group in the Brainerd lakes area, will hold auditions for the 2014-15 season from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 5, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Baxter.
Singers of all voice parts are sought, especially tenors and second basses, and can be from any community in Minnesots. Sarah Aamot, the choral director, bases auditions on the following musical skills: intonation, tone quality (choral sound vs. solo), ability to control vibrato, ability to read music, vocal flexibility and expressiveness. A prepared piece is not necessary.
The chorale will be preparing gospel, bluegrass, folk songs and spirituals for the fall concert series (Nov. 21-23), “Gimme’ That Ol’ Time Religion;” and water-themed pieces for the 2015 spring series (April 24-26, 2015), “Songs on the Water.”
In addition, the chorale is collaborating with the Heartland Symphony Orchestra (HSO) on Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, popularly known as the “Ode to Joy,” for the HSO’s concert series Dec. 6-7.
The Legacy Chorale is governed by a nine-member board, and group membership is by auditions, which are held twice a year.
Acceptance into the Legacy Chorale of Greater Minnesota entitles singers to season schedules, program information and membership guidelines. Members are required to pay a season membership of $25, secure their own concert attire and provide their own transportation for rehearsals and concerts.
Rehearsals are held every Tuesday from 6:30-9 p.m., beginning Sept. 2, in the Choir Room at Brainerd High School.
