Pine River author Kathy Soukup will be featured at Festival of Authors, a book-signing event held in conjunction with the 26th annual Spotlight on Books Conference on April 11-12 at Ruttger’s Sugar Lake Lodge just south of Grand Rapids.

As part of the conference, Soukup will offer a presentation about herself and her book Saturday morning.

Soukup co-authored “Standing Tall on One Leg” (WestBow Press, 2013) with her son, Joel Soukup. The book journeys through 10 years of their lives as Joel receives a cancer diagnosis at age 16 and a recurrent tumor at age 20. The book is written from Kathy’s perspective as a mother of a child with a cancer diagnosis and also from Joel’s perspective as a teenager receiving the diagnosis.

The words of each are woven together throughout the story as they share their journey from receiving the life-threatening diagnosis and subsequent treatments to the surgery in which Joel’s entire right leg and pelvis needed to be amputated to save his life

Spotlight on Books is a conference for adults on the general topic of children/young adult literature aimed at assisting librarians and media specialists, teachers and future teachers, parents, youth group leaders, community organizations and interested others who are concerned about helping young people find involvement and satisfaction with the best that books have to offer.
