Michael Johnson to perform April 12 in Pequot Lakes
The Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts 30th anniversary year will conclude with a performance by Michael Johnson at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.
Johnson is a guitarist, singer and songwriter who has had several Billboard charting hits. He sings pop, country and classics from the American songbook. His songs have been recorded by such artists as Alison Krauss, Suzy Bogguss, Chet Atkins and The Persuasions.
Johnson began playing guitar at age 13. He studied classical guitar with Graciano Tarrago in Barcelona. After returning to the States he joined Randy Sparks in a group called the New Society and toured East Asia.
Johnson then joined the Chad Mitchell Trio and began co-writing and touring with John Denver, forming a trio called Denver, Boise and Johnson.
Johnson’s biggest hits include “Bluer Than Blue,” “This Night Won’t Last Forever” and “Almost Like Being in Love.”
He enjoyed success in Nashville, recording No. 1 country songs with singers like Juice Newton and Sylvia.
Johnson continued to tour solo, playing about half of his shows in Minnesota, where he lived from 1969-85. He met up with singer/songwriter John Gorka at the Dakota Jazz Club recently.
