Technical Theater Class offered in Pequot Lakes

Pequot Lakes Community Education and the Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts/Pequot Lakes Community Theater are offering a Technical Theater Class from 7-9 p.m. April 14-15, 17, and 21-22 in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.

C.J. Anderson, Kim Utesch and Craig Friday will lead the class.

Backstage and out of the limelight is where the technical theatre crew, dressed in black, does its work in running the sound, lights and rigging systems for a theatrical or stage performance.

The three-part series will cover each of the performance enhancing systems — sound, light and rigging. Participants will learn the skills needed to operate these systems in the Pequot Lakes High School theatre. The class includes practical hands-on work.

Upon completion of the series a technical theatre certification card will be issued to graduate techs. The certification card is required to work in the theatre on future performances.

The lighting system was replaced in January and all certified technicians require recertification in rigging, lighting and sound.

Fee is $35, which includes a technical theater reference book. Fee to be recertified is $10, which is necessary for all currently certified technicians.

To register or for more information, call Pequot Lakes Community Education at 568-9200.
