A cold Back to Hack Winter Festival got people out of their warm homes for some winter fun Saturday, Jan. 25.

The Paul Bunyan Family Fishing Contest returned this year. Caleb Garoutte won the largest fish caught by an adult with a 2.2-pound northern pike. J.R. Vojtech caught the largest fish in the youth category with a 1.14-pound pike. Adyson Kurtz caught the first fish.

Ricky McNamara of Hackensack won the top prize in the raffle — $1,000 in cash.

Molly Wiste of Hackensack took first place in this year’s snow sculpting competition.

Ann Johannsen of Rochester found the medallion Friday.

Tara Entringer of Akeley was the fastest person at the first-ever Frostbite Your Fanny 2.5-mile Fun Run/Walk.

In a separate but simultaneous event, the Pines Area Medical Development Association’s Penguin Plunge raised $6,842.61 with more than 50 jumpers. The Hackensack American Legion team raised the most money with $1,478. This also marked the last jump for 73-year-old Mary Parish, who jumped with four generations of her family.

The proceeds from this event benefit the Hackensack Medical Clinic owned and operated by Essentia Health in Hackensack.
